Miracle in a Dry Season by Sarah Loudin Thomas

I always have to comment on a cover that catches my eye or stands out. The simplicity and beauty of this cover had me ready to put this book before some of my ones that I needed to read first. It was hard to look at it and not start turning pages already.


I felt so sad at how Perla was treated. I couldn't help but feel the sadness and pain that she had felt for all of the judging that was going on about her and her daughter. It also reminded me that that's not altogether gone in our society, either. Just as it was easier for the people in the story to cast blame or judgments, so do we often resort to that path.

It was beautiful to watch Casewell come to realize that he could indeed love a harlot. At some point, we have all been harlots in the spiritual sense. I loved watching him realize that yes, Perla was indeed worth his love and a relationship.

I had never read anything by Sarah Loudin Thomas, but I did see that she had a book that may or may not have flowed into this book in some way. Now I want to read that book, too!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Sarah Loudin Thomas grew up on a 100-acre farm in French Creek, WV, the seventh generation to live there. Her Christian fiction is set in West Virginia and celebrates the people, the land, and the heritage of Appalachia. Her first novel, Miracle in a Dry Season, releases August 2014 through Bethany House. Sarah is represented by Wendy Lawton of Books & Such Literary Agency.

A graduate of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, Sarah once dreamed of being a marine scientist. But her love for words won out and she has spent much of her career in public relations and marketing. She currently oversees fundraising and communications for a Christian children’s home in Black Mountain, NC.

Sarah and her husband Jim live in the mountains of Western North Carolina with Thistle–the canine equivalent to a personal trainer pushing them to hike, run, and throw sticks. Sarah is active in her local church and enjoys cooking and–you guessed it–reading.
