The Wedding Chapel by Rachel Hauck

Imagine a wedding chapel that was built for the love of your life who isn't in your life anymore. In fact, you've spent your own time building this chapel just for her. Considering your past and how your mother walked away and you watched your father wanted to build a dream home for her in case she returns, you would think you'd be jaded a bit when it comes to love. However, when you find the one, there's no taking them out of your life. Well... except for a misunderstanding that leads to unforgiveness and bitterness. That's exactly what happens in Hearts Bend.

Now what would happen if a young photographer was able to bring these two people together? Sounds impossible, I know. Especially when you add into the mix that this young photographer just eloped and is dealing with her own marriage issues. To say that she knows it all in the romance department is a huge understatement. She had no desire to get married. When she did, she apparently chose the one person who had a lot of his past to work though and a lot of forgiveness to deal with. Of course, that would mean that her husband wasn't was strong as he wanted everyone to think he was, so she's left wondering if her marriage is even going to make it past the 6 month mark.

My favorite part about this book is that it is told from the perspective of different people. I always enjoy books like that because I don't have to guess at what the characters are thinking. I had no idea where the story was going in some parts because Rachel Hauck did a wonderful job at keeping her readers guessing. Secrets were revealed at just the right time and I was thoroughly engaged throughout the entire story.

Whispers in the Reading Room by Shelley Gray

I'm not a huge fan of mystery/suspense books, but I really enjoy Shelley Gray. Since I have come to like Gray, I knew that I had to at least give this series a chance or I would always wonder if I would like it or not. I have only ever read her Amish fiction, so to break out into genre of mystery felt like a huge leap for me. After finishing this book, I now want to read the rest in this series, A Chicago World's Fair Mystery.

I'm sure if someone loves mystery with lots of suspense and twists and turns, then this book may not be one of the top suspenseful books you've ever read. However, for me, it was the perfect amount of suspense and mystery. Lydia and Sebastian both have a lot of mystery surrounding them. Sebastian hides a lot and very slowly more of who he is really is exposed throughout the story. The relationship between Sebastian and Lydia's ex-fiancé also holds a bit of mystery for a while. Even Lydia doesn't quite know all of who he is.

The mystery book seems perfectly fitting to take place in a library. It was the perfect setting for this story. Gray did a wonderful job in crafting a story that leaves the reader turning page after page, anxious to understand who Sebastian is and what decisions in the past have lead to who he is now. I also found Lydia's mom fascinating because she has just faded away ever since her husband's death. She has different idea of what Lydia's life should be like because she so desperately wants Lydia to marry for wealth and society.

Not only is there the mystery surrounding who Sebastian Marks is, there is also a mystery surrounding a death.

All throughout the book, I wrestled with which characters were being honest, which ones were hiding things, and tried to narrow down those who could be trustworthy and those who could be lying or manipulative.

I am quite impressed with Gray's ability to write Amish fiction and then to turn around and write this series. I really think that is quite an accomplishment to cross such wide genres.

Another Way Home by Deborah Raney

Deborah Raney has written a series that I have thoroughly enjoyed from book 1. I love how the Chicory Inn has remained a center piece through each book, although it changes roles throughout each book. For example, in this book it is mostly featured as the place where the family gets together for Tuesday meals. It is where announcements are made and tears are shed and joys are shared.

Danae and Dallas are the central characters in this book. Their situation is one that so many can relate to so easily. Danae desperately wants to have a child, but she isn't able to get pregnant month after month. It's all her heart wants and it's so hard for her to focus on much else. Add to that having a sister that can have baby after baby whether she wanted to have one or not. Those announcements just never get easier because Danae can't help but wonder when it'll be her turn to announce baby news, or if it'll even ever happen.

I loved how Danae chose to pour her heart into a new passion--volunteering at a women's shelter. My heart broke over the children, though. Just knowing that many of the kids in these situations have experienced what was written or even so much more is heartbreaking.

I felt like so many issues were incorporated into this book. Difficulty getting pregnant, marriage issues, abuse, adoption and that's just to name a few. Even with all of the heavier topics brought up, the book was an interesting one and it didn't feel so weighty that I didn't enjoy it. In fact, it was extremely hard for me to put this book down. I'm looking forward to the next book coming out soon!

The Ology by Marty Machowski

When I saw this book was about to be released, I knew this was one I wanted for my own children. I had read some great reviews on it from some authors that I trust and they had so many good things to say. In fact, the reviews in the front of the book are from some well-known theologians, pastors, and authors.

Many people hesitate to teach their children theology, thinking that it is too deep for them to understand. I have long held the idea that it's not too deep because even as adults we are still learning theology and will never fully grasp all of it in our finite minds.

The book has a parent guide that in the very front of the book. I appreciated this because as a homeschooling family, we are easily able to incorporate this book into our daily studies. It's tailored for elementary students, children ages 6-12. However, my 5 year old has learned a lot from it. It does say that teens and adults can use it to help lay a solid biblical worldview. For that matter, adults will find this book very enjoyable to read. I also really appreciate how it encourages the readers to check out a few more books as your child ages. I definitely want to get the companion album that goes with this book. How neat to be able to teach theology with music.

The sections of the book are:

3. The Ology of Sin
4. The Ology of the Promise and the Law
5. The Ology of Christ
6. The Ology of the Holy Spirit

The chapters are short in each section and the author highly recommends you take the book one chapter at a time and really discuss the chapter throughout the day. There is Scripture included on the pages that you can memorize, but surrounding the pictures on the opposite page is extra Scripture verses that you can use to go deeper into the subject.

Another thing that I found extremely helpful for my children is the Glossary. It tweaks some important Bible Words and some big words we hear most often and it explains them in a way for children to understand.

Following that page is a Think Theology, Talk Theology page. Each chapter has two questions that you can ask your child to help clarify any concepts they may be confused on or have difficulty understanding.

This book will be one that we will be using in our family for many years and I will definitely be purchasing this to give to others for gifts. It is especially important for our children to know what they believe and why and I'm so thankful for this book written for children.

Saturate by Jeff Vanderstelt

I have been very excited to read this book ever since I saw the title of this book. I knew it would be one that was challenging and would help challenge me to be intentional in my every day life. It's so easy to go into the mundane tasks of the day as a checklist and to forget the intentional relationships I need to continue to pursue that are all around me.

Jeff does a great job at starting with the basics and explaining how being a disciple of Jesus is as simple as investing in the lives of others. The story Jeff shares about his mom and dad and how they used their home has stuck with me. I had just been in that situation in thinking that maybe I needed to do more, when in fact, I had been doing it all along. I appreciated that personal story because it was easy to relate to and a good picture of what it means to be intentional.

Growing up in the Bible belt (although it's becoming less and less that), many people say they love Jesus and they go to church, but then they act anything but Christ-like on the other 6-1/2 days of the week. Jesus gets put into a box in the lives of many people, and it's quite easy to do if we're not intentional. Jeff reminds us that Jesus needs to be in everything. We are to saturate our lives with Jesus. It doesn't mean we jam Him down the throats of people or anything, but that our own lives are so saturate with Jesus that His characteristics flow out of us.

Throughout the book, Jeff gives some wonderful examples of things to consider in our own lives. I was challenged to really meditate and be honest with myself about what areas I've boxed in and what areas I need to be more intentional about in being sure Jesus is seen in even the mundane tasks I perform.

When I first got this book, I decided I would read it at night. Then I learned that would be impossible because it is definitely one that I needed to read alert and really soak in all that he was sharing in these pages. I love books that challenge me and encourage me and this one did it.

A Chameleon, a Boy, and a Quest by J. A. Myhre

I was looking forward to reading this book to my children. We have been studying Africa in school and I knew this book would be a great one to add to our reading list. Needless to say, this book has been stolen off my shelf countless times by my son who has decided that he wants to read it again by himself. That says a lot if a 7-year-old has fallen in love with this! I'm always looking for a book to grab his attention, and this book had it all... full of adventure and a great book for the imagination. I even found myself going back into a childhood imagination as I was reading this story.

Mu was a little difficult to hear about for my kids as he is orphaned. My children felt so bad for him and it led to them asking a lot of questions. The book lender itself to deeper questions with the imagination anyway. There was a lot of thoughts about choices and the need to be watchful because it's so easy to follow others into a path that isn't good.

Another attractive thing about this book is it has pictures! This is another plus for a mother who is reading to her children. And since the story is set in Africa, what child doesn't like to see pictures or hear stories of African animals?!

I love how this book was write by J. A. Myhre to her four children as a special story to give to them for Christmas. How beautiful a gift that is to your children. With Christmas coming and so many parents looking for books to read for the 24 days of Christmas book list, this should be added. It'll take longer than a day to read it with your kids probably, but the conversation and the trip you all will take in your imaginations together will be some wonderful memories.

The Photograph by Beverly Lewis

I have never read a book by Beverly Lewis that I haven't anticipated or disliked! Sometimes authors who have written many books fall into a rut and don't improve after their first couple of books. Beverly Lewis is quite the opposite, in my opinion. She seems to keep building on her previous books and each book that I read I say is my "new favorite."

I could not imagine the heart-wrenching pain when Eva looses her sister because she has chosen to run away. The pain is very easy to relate to as a reader because we all have experienced something similar in our own families, I'd be willing to guess. I'll be honest... Eva's brother got on my bad side at the start because of how he talked to Eva and his sisters and how he made them make choices they shouldn't have had to make.

I absolutely love Jed and how he is introduced to Eva for the first time. That was such a wonderful idea to write into the story. It was beautiful!

As always, I didn't want to see this book end. I finished the last page already anxious to start another book by Beverly Lewis. They just never seem to last long enough!

Blessed, Blessed, Blessed by Missy Robertson

I really enjoy Duck Dynasty and respect the Robertson family a lot. They are such a strong, Christian family who have been through the fire and been refined and have given so much glory to God for their lives and the journey they have walked.

Missy and Jase faced some major decisions when it came to the birth of their daughter Mia. She had a cleft lip and palate and needed surgery. This surgery would not just occur once at 3 months old, but would continue at different stages of her development. This wasn't a one-time fix. It was going to be a long journey. Missy did an excellent job explaining the problems it causes, the possible problems that I didn't know could occur with a child who has cleft problems, and even how the entire family had to adjust to the new family normal. Even the boys took on a few responsibilities and I loved it! Sometimes I wonder if I expect too much from my older two kids and this book showed me I didn't.

I love how all of the books the Robertson have written with such honesty and transparency. Missy shares about her thoughts and where her heart truly was throughout the different stages in the journey. She also shares how Jase struggled and how he felt through the different surgeries and doctor appointments. It was sweet to see a daddy's heart and his love for his daughter.

This book really shows how God took what was a bad situation and how God has used it for good and for his glory. Mia is going to do great things as she grows up! Thank you for sharing her story and for raising awareness about the challenges kids with cleft lips and palates face.

American Hunter by Willie Robertson and William Doyle

My 7-year-old son was absolutely excited to open the package that revealed this book. He wanted to take it with him everywhere to read. It is a book that is a bit beyond his reading skills because of the length, but he has trudged through with such diligence and has read several pages in this book to his sisters and to his dad and grandpa. He loves being outdoors and target shooting and can't wait for his first hunting expedition. He loves Duck Dynasty and has watched almost every episode and has read their books for kids where you choose your own journey.

I was really impressed by this book. I read a few chapters to my son and enjoyed the stories so much that I would read it to myself if I missed any chapters. There is so much information in the book, but I absolutely loved the stories of some famous American people. I really had no idea a few of them hunted! They never seemed like the type of person to hunt.

This book is definitely written for older kids and adults, but if you have a son who loves the outdoors, then you will create some wonderful memories with them by reading this book out loud. My 5-year-old daughter even sits in and listens. At first she wasn't as enthused because she thought it was more of a boy book. Now she asks to read it every night and loves the stories just as much as my son!

With Christmas coming up, American Hunter would make a great gift to put under the tree or to put in a stocking.

The Splendor of Ordinary Days by Jeff High

I love the Mitford Series books by Jan Karon, so when I saw this book compared to this series I was very excited. I honestly didn't think that the cover of this book was very eye-catching and I'm not certain I would have picked up this book if  I hadn't read a review on it.

I really liked the small town story of Watervalley. I had not read any other books by Jeff High, but I was definitely intrigued enough by this small town that I would like to read the beginning story of Watervalley, More Things in Heaven and Earth. I was hooked from the very first chapters of this book and came to love each character within this small town. Even ornery Luther grew on me and became one that I looked forward to seeing within the story.

The biggest surprise of the story to me is the relationship some of the people have with the Mennonite community that was so close to Watervalley. That put an interesting twist into the story that I wasn't really expecting..

One thing that I loved about the Mitford series that is also true about this book is that the story isn't rushed or packed full of action. In fact, it's the slow revelations on the little things or personalities of certain characters that make the book move along, instead of constant action. It's one of those nice, relaxing stories that leave you wanting more when you close the book for the final time.

This cookbook was everything I hoped it would be and more. I absolutely love the beautiful pictures inside and the stories of reminiscing and Whitney Miller's own personal thoughts on certain dishes. Each recipe begins with this wonderful introduction, which made me immediately want to invite some people over and start cooking.

It's not often when I get a new cookbook and I want to cook every single recipe inside. In fact, I think there may be only 1 or 2 that I have cooked everything out of it. This book is going to be added to that shelf. There was not one recipe that didn't churn up some memories or excitement for me. As I was going through it, I was already planning ahead for Thanksgiving and making a list of some wonderful dishes to try.

Another wonderful thing about this cookbook is that there are several gluten-free recipes included, as well. I appreciated that sensitivity to those with different diets who need an alternative but would love to eat some good food.

The recipes are made from a list of ingredients that I actually keep in my pantry. There wasn't anything extra special about the ingredients, which I love! The steps are simple and makes it so easy and quick for the home cook to follow. This makes cooking so much more fun and not quite a burden with a list of steps to follow that are difficult or time-consuming.

We tried the Seared Beef Tips and the Not Your Grandma's Roast. These were delicious! I have pretty much made my entire weekly meal plan from this cookbook. I can't wait to try all of these dishes--from breakfast to dessert, I'm anxious to see what my kids like!

I absolutely love history now that I'm older. I find that I gravitate a lot towards fictional books that include history. However, I still love my Amish fiction. Usually those two genres don't go together, so that is what has endeared this series to me. I finally have my two favorite genres joined together! I read a lot of books and I can't really think of an Amish series that includes more of the historical setting of WWII. It may be out there, but I haven't ran across it yet.

What makes this book so interesting is because the author is interesting. She was Amish and still has Amish family, even though she is not Amish anymore. She also married a man in the Air Force. Fascinating! So she writes with a lot of knowledge of the Amish community and the military.

As a music therapist and someone who is partially deaf in one ear, and someone who loves sign language, the characters in this book spoke to my heart. I loved watching Joe learn to interact and communicate with his daughter.

This book stirs up many emotions that the characters have to deal with. There's risk, loss, fear, frustration, anger, and lastly, love. Daisy may bring Joe and Esther together, but they ultimately have to decide if love is more than the loss they have and will experience in their lives.

Pass It On by Jim Burns & Jeremy Lee

I was really excited to read this book after I heard Jeremy Lee speak on this a few years ago. I had never thought about the different experiences I could give my children that would help pass my faith on. I loved how this book leads to intentional parenting. It keeps Jesus at the center of the focus of parenting.

I also love the idea of doing rites of passage for my children throughout their different stages of life. I'm not certain I will do every year as they are growing up, but who knows! I've already started thinking about how I will do our first one. I know my children will absolutely love it and I pray it will be something that they will always look back on and remember.

This book will be one that I consult a lot through the years. I can even see this given to several of my friends at their baby showers. We tend to think our faith will be passed on without us even talking about it, but I love how this book reminds parents of the importance of being intentional with passing our faith no. We can't just assume that they know why we believe what we do or even what exactly we do believe. It offers parents a chance to be transparent with their child and to really have those heart-to-heart conversations. And who knows... maybe your child will pass their faith on with these special moments, as well.

Just Show Up by Kara Tippetts and Jill Lynn Buteyn

I was privileged to be able to walk with my grandpa on his cancer journey. I learned so much about what it mean to have a couple of people "just show up" for me. Most of them were not local people, so they would send a text or call. My mom experienced people showing up for her physically, whether by bringing meals by as she cared for my grandpa, or meeting her for lunch, or bringing her coffee. It was those small things that meant so much to our family. We so desperately wanted someone to acknowledge how crappy cancer is. I currently am thankful to walk with a close friend on her cancer journey with her son who has cancer. Because I saw how people showed up for me, I am able to show up for her. It was a trial not wasted. Not one I ever wanted to go on, but one that helped open my eyes to the long journey of cancer and how so many people forget to include you or call or even to bring up the subject.

This book should be in any church that has a care groups or has anyone wanting to know how to walk through suffering with someone. You're heart will hurt, you will be left wordless so many times, and you will cry so many tears on behalf of someone else. However, you will be blessed by the journey and by the relationships formed.

Just Show Up is full of a beautiful story of a community of women reaching out even in the suffering. It wasn't always beautiful and lots of grace was needed for the times when things were said that could cause hurt feelings, but it was a community that could come together to help meet most needs for Kara before and after her death. One friend was able to help her plan her funeral so her husband and family didn't have to do that. Another friend took care of the kids and another stocked her freezer full of food.

I could relate to so much in this book that I kept telling my friend that she just had to read this book! There were times with my grandpa when my heart was so broken that all I could do when praying was to say "Lord, Lord." I didn't even know how to finish my prayer or what to ask for. I was so thankful to see that Jill did too! And after getting so much devastating news from Kara, I can relate to the sleepless nights and lots of tears. I feel like I text my friend so much with "I have no words. Praying,." It feels so small, but I know it's all I have.

I can not possibly say too many wonderful words about this book. I love the little perspective from Kara placed at the end of each section by Jill. How beautiful! She was a lady that I think so many people loved to be around and her loss has probably made a giant hole in the lives of so many people.

I highly recommend to everyone to read this book. It is a giant book of grace--extending grace to yourself and the one suffering. I also thanked how she talked about insecurity. I can definitely relate to that!

Firefly Summer by Kathleen Y'Barbo

I was intrigued by this story when I read the synopsis on the back of the book. I'll admit that once I started reading the first chapter, I was head over heels for that little boy of Sessa's. I mean, who wouldn't love that rodeo-loving boy with the red hat?!  The Chambers were walking through a nightmare, but Sessa was trying her hardest to give her son what he needed. However, it wasn't enough. She loved Jesus, she did all the "right things" that we as Christian parents try to teach our kids, yet it didn't turn out the way she had hoped. Her prodigal son never returned back to her. Yet she still has a small piece of him that showed up on her doorstep. She has a choice of what she wants to invest her life in. Which is great, except she has several things she wants to invest in, including her job.

This isn't the only huge issue in Sessa's life right now, either. She has to come to terms with forgiveness and understanding. Dr. Brown's life was changed the same day that Sessa's son's was. His reputation has been tainted and starting over isn't easy. I couldn't help but like Dr. Brown. When I realized who he was and the connection, I didn't want to like him. But after hearing his story, I came to really like that man.

This book speaks to overcoming the past, forgiveness, and I really think, investing in lives. Sessa's life wasn't tied up in pretty bows. It was messy. It was just like all of our lives. Firefly Summer reminded me that my plan for my life and God's plan for my life may be completely different at some stages in my life. Will I surrender my will to His? Sessa had to do that and it was a battle, just as most of us experience.

I enjoyed the story, but would have loved to have seen the first 4 chapters not span such a wide time. I felt like I was jumping time for a bit. I appreciated the back story, but I wonder if it could have somehow been done differently. Doing it once wouldn't be so bad, but twice left me wondering how many more times I was going to be jumping through.

For the Love by Jen Hatmaker

It has been such an incredibly long time since I've read a book that had me laughing one moment and shaking my head in agreement wanting to yell "Amen" the next. Oh how I can relate to her and the exercise pants. Seriously... there are no pants more comfortable than those. Amen to those leggings are not pants section.... at any age.

But on the more serious things, I may not agree with everything that she writes but I respect her for writing with fierce convictions and for pointing out how we need to fight for grace in a world of impossible standards.

My favorite section had to deal with small groups. I think it was because I've been struggling with this and I appreciated the freedom she gave me. At this season in my life, I don't have enough time in my day to do all of these organized things at church and still be able to reach out to my neighbors, have them over for dinner, or just go sit on their porch with them. I want to do that. I appreciated that she talks about how we don't always need more organized groups, because that's been my thought. I like the organic kind where I'm not forced into friendships where the people tend to treat it as a clique. I want authentic, transparent relationships, not competitive and judgmental ones. And I can so relate to her slipping out and not saying goodbye. I'm so glad that someone else would rather slip in and out too. I wondered if something was wrong with me, but hey, now I can simply ask WWJH do. She would exit like a quiet ninja and never look back!

I was challenged by this book, yet encouraged. I had my eyes opened to some things that I hadn't spent much time thinking about. I felt a freedom in some areas that I have been fighting for some time when it came to the local church and how we are adding more without considering what might need to lessen. This is a book I'm keeping on my shelf and reading and re-reading. Thank you for writing this book, Jen Hatmaker.

A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn by Shelley Shepard Gray

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, the Amish Brides of Pinecraft. I have come to love the town of Pinecraft and would love to visit it in person one day. I like the map at the front of the book that shows you where everything is located and give you a good visual of the town.

Emma and Jay both find themselves in a spot in life that they never dreamed of experiencing. Through common circumstances, they find that they have much they can talk about and many instances where they can relate to each other. Who would ever imagine that a pizza-loving hound would be the one playing matchmaker!

Shelley Shepard Gray does a wonderful job capturing the reader from the very beginning. I have not read a book by her that I have disliked. She has captured my full attention from the beginning and I find that I have a hard time putting down her books. I do like that her books aren't as many pages because then I can read it as a reward in between doing chores (don't judge me!). By the end of my chore time, I've completed the entire book as a reward for mopping and cleaning. So thank you, Shelley Shepard Gray for giving me something to look forward to and for testing my ability to "just say no" when all I really want to do is read one more chapter before picking up that mop! I'm so glad that there's one more book in this series. I just don't want to say goodbye yet! Oh and the pictures of Pinecraft bring this story to life. Such a wonderful idea to include those.

Taming the To-Do List by Glynnis Whitwer

First of all, I should thank Glynnis Whitwer for helping me to procrastinate for just a little longer on a few tasks I've dreaded doing. In fact, within the time frame of reading this book, I put off cleaning bathrooms, mopping, and I do believe there was a day I put off doing the dishes! My excuse was perfect: once I finish reading this book, I'll be better at marking those tasks off my to-do list. So from the bottom of my heart (and much to my husband's dismay), thank you!

In all seriousness, I had first looked forward to this book because I thought it would help me to become more efficient at the tasks that I juggle everyday. For example, I thought maybe there would be some divine idea that would shine a light on how to make my bathrooms shinier much faster or help me not to look at sweeping as such a chore to loathe. Or perhaps it would show me where that magic fairy was that could help me put up my clothes that have now sat in the laundry basket for um....3 weeks. This book did none of that.

However, it did tell my what the root of my problem is. It revealed to me why I look at my mess and just shut down instead of becoming motivated to do it all. It explains why I feel so much more progress when I write down every little step so that I can mark it off. It also told me why I figure that if I can't do my best then I shouldn't even start. I am a procrastinator. Of course, I knew I was in small ways, but I really didn't think it carried over to housework. I was wrong!

I really appreciated her tips of journaling out a huge master to-do list and then making it one-step tasks vs. multiple-step tasks. I'm the one with sticky notes dividing up my other sticky notes. This sounded like a glorious idea to me, and one that I'm already taking to heart.

The book does include some soul-searching and action steps. I found this helpful because I have a tendency to keep on breezing through the book and forgetting some of the ideas the book mentioned.

If you're a procrastinator or don't have a clue if you are or not, this book is for you! Seriously. Don't procrastinate in getting this book. It is a one-step decision to go to the store and get it or go online and add it to your cart.

Oh, and it has the cutest cover that makes every task-oriented person want to grab this book and devour it right away. I mean, who doesn't love a check list as a cover?!

Ties that Bind by Cindy Woodsmall

Every time I read a new release by Cindy Woodsmall,  I'm convinced it's the best book I've read of hers. That holds true with this book, too. I don't know that I could pick a favorite book of mine that she has written because I enjoy them all and they have a permanent space on my bookshelf!

From the front cover to the back, this book is well done. The cover of the book is beautiful, along with the fonts used for the title. I try not to judge a book by its cover, but I do.

Ties that Bind is the first book her latest series, The Amish of Summer Grove. Quill and Ariana have a past and honestly, based on the synopsis of the book, I was prepared to not like Quill. I was pretty convinced that I wouldn't like him. However, it's awfully hard not to like someone who wants to protect someone from something that they know will devastate them. The lengths he goes to and the compassion he shows has made me change my mind. I cannot imagine what Ariana must feel, though, with the new knowledge she has just learned about her life.

If you're looking for a book in a series that ties the story up and puts a bow on it, don't grab this book! It leaves some things unanswered, and leaves the reader waiting anxiously for the next release.

Intersect: Where your story and God's story converge-Small Group DVD

I had no trouble seeing how I would love to use this DVD as a small group study or even as conversation starters with people I meet daily. Although this DVD focuses on the UK, it is very applicable to life in the United States. I was hooked on the first story of the father discussing how life has changed from his expectations when his son was diagnosed with autism. I also could easily relate to the mom trying to balance life and work.

Part of the Awaken movement, this DVD is an excellent resource that will help to equip members of your church to live out their faith. The study is simple You watch the videos, which are actually short stories. There are 5 stories in the DVD. Inside the booklet in the case, there is a study guide for both facilitators and participants.

The great thing about this DVD is that it isn't necessarily geared just toward Christians in church. This is also for the unchurched, for those who are searching, or those who just like to have spiritual conversations. The topics that the study hits on are: expectations, rest, disappointment, trust, and control.

I did have my toes stepped on a little and had some great reminders in each of these sections. The control section and expectations, though, have stayed with me.

The video is beautifully done, with beautiful pictures of the U.K. It is not a video that is done halfway. You can tell they put their best into this resource for the church. I will definitely be holding on to this video and using it for a small group study. I can even see a group of teens using this study easily.

Counting on a Cowboy by Debra Clopton

I was hooked on this series ever since I read the first book a few months ago. I was really looking forward to reading this one and kept my eye out waiting for this one to be released. I loved all the characters in the previous book and just knew this whole serious would be a fun read. I'm so glad I wasn't disappointed... not like I even thought I might would be. With Debra Clopton, I've decided that's near impossible!

This book focuses on Bo who is in for the surprise of his life. He gets some unexpected news that shocks him and forever changes his life. Now he has to change his plan for his life and come to terms with a new "normal." His life is already busy by taking care of his Pops, and now he's adding a son. The last thing he thinks he possibly needs, or can handle, is a wife.

Abby is such a sweet girl and I truly liked her. Of course she'd have to be sweet in order to mesh with Bo and to win his cowboy heart! She teaches him a lot on the journey of fatherhood.

Debra Clopton does an excellent job with adding humor in just the right places. I love this Four of Hearts Ranch series. These cowboys are in for a life that they never expected! I'm anxiously awaiting book 3 in this series.

Irish Meadows by Susan Anne Mason

I'll be completely honest: I wanted to read this book simply because of the cover and the title of this book. I know that's a completely lame reason when it comes to an avid reader choosing a book! But I can't help it. I'm drawn to books with "Ireland" or "Irish" in the title. Now that I've confessed, I'll also go ahead and state that I had never read any books by Susan Anne Mason. So I wasn't certain whether I'd like this book or not since I had a different set of criteria in choosing this book, apparently!

I really like the title of this new series: Courage to Dream. I think it lends itself to some very promising books in the future. In this particular book, though, the O'Leary clan are the ones who are having to dare to have courage. The sisters, Colleen and Brianna, must find the courage to go completely against what their father wishes for them. It's not necessarily out of spite.... it's just that they have a different idea of what they want. I liked these two spunky sisters, even when their sisterly rivalry was at it's peak. The character I didn't like quite as much was their father, simply because I wanted them to marry for love. I understand the historical times, but I still wanted love to be a factor in their marriages.

I really like historical fiction and am always amazed at the amount of information I learn in a well-written historical novel. I learned a lot in this book. However, there were times where I felt like the content was a little heavy on the history side. It was good, but it seemed to drag the story for just a little while before I got back into it again. With that said, though, I still found the story interesting and it did capture my attention.

I am looking forward to see what direction this series will go. It definitely has a lot of possibility.

Through Waters Deep by Sarah Sundin

If I were to name a favorite author in the historical fiction category, it would definitely be Sarah Sundin. Her books are full of history and you can tell she does her research well before she starts writing. I have read many of her books and have enjoyed each one so far.

Through Waters Deep didn't disappoint me at all. The first book in her new series, Waves of Freedom, focuses its time in 1941. The reader is introduced to, and instantly hooked on, Jim and Mary. I was captured by this story from the first page.

I found this book to be relative to today in some ways. For instance, America didn't really expect or believe what was going on in the European countries. History is repeating itself in some ways today and you can see a little of that parallel in this book. It definitely made me think about the years we are living in now.

I couldn't help but respect Jim and Mary as their story unfolded. They learn of a sabotage and they know they have to stop it and figure out who is behind it. I really liked the suspense that Sarah Sundin put into this book. I wasn't necessarily expecting it, since I don't usually read the synopsis of the book that is placed on the back of the book. I like the element of surprise.

If I had to choose a favorite character, it would be Mary. She was strong, courageous, and not without things that she had to overcome. She had the fear, but also knew that fear couldn't paralyze her if she was going to be able to save lives. When placed in a dangerous situation, she acted.

I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series. What a wonderful book this was!
