Sixty Acres and a Bride by Regina Jennings

This was a wonderful plot taken from the Scriptures itself.  The main story kind of follows Ruth and Boaz, but that is not their name in this story.  Nor is it the exact circumstances.  If you know the story of Ruth, then you will see some parallels.  The book takes place in 1878 in Texas.  Rosa Garner, who is young and widowed, decides to go with her mother-in-law back to their ranch in Texas.  However, they are faced with paying back taxes, which equals $160 dollars.  Oh, and it has to be paid in 3 months.  Kicking into high gear, the ladies busy themselves forming their own "businesses" and offering many services to help come up with the money.  Weston, her husband's cousin, helps them with their farming endeavors and does all he can to help them.

As you've probably guessed, there's a little romance that goes on between Rosa and Weston.  They must look past their customs, cultures, and languages to truly fit in to this new environment and to be accepted both as a woman and as a couple.

When I first saw this book, the cover and title intrigued me.  I had no clue that it paralleled a biblical story, but once I started reading it and saw that for myself, it made the book even better.  I really hope that Regina Jennings writes another book soon.  She has such talent to keep the readers engaged in her book!
